Sunday 6 July 2003:
"Timeless", I suppose, would be the best caption for this photo, showing
J549 simmering in the dying minutes of a clear winter's day at Muckleford
in Central Victoria.
There's a story behind this photo (isn't there
always?).
I was standing at the platform waiting for
some tourists to step out of the way as I could see the glint getting better
and better. Also it was a "Friends of Thomas" weekend and I didn't
want a frontal photo of a caricatured locomotive.
When the visitors finished talking, one of
them walked to the end of the platform and took a standard 3/4 frontal
view. I then knelt down and commenced taking a series of photos resulting
in this shot.
The other photographer walked past me, stopped,
turned, and sized up the scene. "Ya shootin' into the sun, ya know",
he said. I replied "I know, but look at the glint, the black clouds,
the gold-lined clouds, the blue sky, the whispy steam, the crew leaning
out of the window - this is the shot!".
He looked at my camera, shook his head and
turned to his partner and said as they walked back to the train, loud enough
for me to hear "some people just don't have a clue..........."
Enjoy this "clueless" photo!
