07 November (7.11) 1999: Harcourt, Victoria
If you have the Steam Media Productions' "1999 - The Victorian Year in Steam" video production, you will have viewed a heavily edited version of this scene (cut back to about 2 minutes). The actual recording starts well before the train appears in the viewfinder, the train passing the camera site at 2'45".
As described in my photo-essay (click here), the train had stopped at Harcourt for an unscheduled photo runpast as they were running early and needed to arrive in Bendigo at 1.00pm. The photo-run over, the loco lifted the eight car train on the 1 in 60 grade, and accelerated all the way up the hill towards Porcupine Hill and onwards to Bendigo in a spectacular display of this machine's magnificent performance. The R class tendency to slip under load can be heard here in a few places (also one at about 80km/h near the end of the sound clip).
