3 October 1999: Farnborough Heights,
NSW. In torrential rain and under under
the watchful eye of the local whipbirds, we await the arrival of a black
3801 and green 3830 through the much-
photographed S-curve that marks the beginning of the struggle for most
trains up the escarpment from Unanaderra to Robertson. The train
is not in view until the 1min30 sec mark. Note how the train speed
is markedly reduced by the end of this clip. |

3 October 1999: Farnborough Heights,
NSW. Twenty minutes later, we're at Dombarton.
The rain hasn't abated much, but there's thick fog to obscure the view.
3801 in particular is finding progress difficult, slipping several times
and almost bringing the train to a standstill. Fortunately 3830 holds
her feet and although the train slows to walking pace, they finally pick
up speed again. An image of this scene may be viewed by clicking
