Introduction
Rail Simulator by Kuju was released in October 2007, along with the Developers Tools.
I had intended the KRS_Bin_Editor to only last until these Developer tools were released, however as the tools released so far do not do everything a power user might require, I have repackaged this tool as RS_Tools (The Missing Bits) and included some new options
Please note that you use this program entirely at your own risk. Documentation for RailSimulator is still not complete, so any changes you make may cause the program to stop working. However this editor does make backups of each .bin file you alter, so you should always be able to return to your original settings.
Users are reminded that this program has nothing to do with Kuju, RSDL or Electronic Arts and is entirely my own work. Any changes you make to the Rail Simulator files are made entirely at your own risk. Users who are not computer literate and without knowledge of .xml file formats should not try to edit any of the files.
Version History
- v3.0.0 - Added button to add highlighting to the .xml files. Allows users to Delete Routes and Scenarios, and allows users to set up Developer folders as suggested in the Development Tools documentation.
- v3.0.04 - The Package Route option now creates a complete solution ready for you to upload including a RouteSetup.exe file which the user runs on his PC to automatically install the new Route.
- v3.0.06 - Fixes some bugs in both the main program and the RouteSetup.exe file which caused them to give errors if the path to the Rail Simulator was not found in the registry.
- v3.0.07 - Converts Google .kml files to Named Marker files and .gpx files to Series Marker files.
- v3.0.09 - Added options to the Convert Marker files so that it also accepts .kml files from Google Earth using the Add Path option, these .kml files produce Series Marker files. Also added the ability to use OziExplorer .wpt (waypoint) files from Magellan GPS equipment
- v3.0.10 - Fixed Stop Error in Delete Scenarios.
- v3.0.11 - Added conversion of MSTS .mkr files to Rail Simulator .csv files
When deleting Routes or Scenarios, the deleted item disappears from the list.
- v3.0.12 - Now saves Rail Sim path currently in use when it exits and uses this path when it is next run.
- v3.0.13 - New - Easy BluePrint creator for TemplateRoutes and RouteMarkers.
- v3.0.16 - Improved Fonts in the editor. Fixed a few bugs in the RouteSetup.exe file. Fixed the conversion of .mkr files and removed quotes from around place names in Named marker files.
- v3.0.17 - Fixed the Convert Marker Files (.kml files option) to use the Point co-ordinates rather than the Long/Lat as these appear to give more accurate renditions in the game.
- v3.0.19 - Now displays which instance of Rail Simulator you are editing (if you have more than one installation). Fixes a bug whereby an error message appeared if you tried to delete multiple routes.
- v3.0.20 - New Files menu, will now open .bin/.tgt/.XSec/.GeoPcDx/.xml/.cost/.TgPcDx files for viewing/editing.
- v3.0.21 - Fixed some bugs in the above options, some files were incorrectly saved in .xml rather than .bin file format (they should still work, but I would recommend using this new version). Also fixed the creation of .bak files, now creates from .bak1 thru .bak50 - should be enough for most people.
{Released 20-Dec-2007}
- v3.1.00 - Completely new version which includes a XML file editor. Also allows you to check Scenarios for missing rolling-stock and to print a list of rolling stock used by a Scenario. Read the NEW Help file to see all the changes.
{Released 29-Dec-2007}
- v3.1.05 - Added Check Route to the Check Routes and Scenarios option. Select a route and click the Check Route button and it will check for missing Shape files, in the Scenery, Loft and Road folders. (Note it does not yet check for textures).
{Released 5-Jan-2008}
- v3.1.06 - Now checks Textures as well as shapes. The RouteSetup.exe has been updated so that if no Route_Setup.xxx is found then it will assume you are just installing content such as rolling stock and will copy the Rail Simulator folder complete with all sub-paths into the users Rail Simulator installation.
- v3.1.08 - Fixed the screen which displays Route Names to correctly display Continental route names if no 'English' name is present. Opening a file in the RS_Tools Editor now also opens it in the XML Editor. Swapping Editors in the menu now opens the editor in the correct tab.
- v3.1.09 - Fixed Delete Scenarios option
{Released 21-Jan-2008}
- v3.1.11 - Fixed Delete and List Scenarios to work where no English name exists. Checks to ensure Rail Simulator\Source exists
- v3.1.14 - Program can now be set up to open .GeoPcDx files when they are clicked on in Windows Explorer or Directory Opus. Fixed Window names on the Check Routes screen. Also includes a new RouteSetup.exe which can be used to install Re-skins of Kuju models etc.
- v3.1.19 - New option to Package Assets, can package your own Assets or Kuju Assets, or any mixture thereof. New Help file included.
{Released 30-Jan-2008}
- v3.1.31 - Beta version with New option on the Tools\Check Route menu. On the Check Route screen you can select a route, display scenarios for route, select a scenario and click Edit Scenario. This brings up a screen where you can edit many of the scenario items such as start time, season, weather etc. This screen also shows you the consists used by the scenario and clicking on any consist displays rolling stock used. Furthermore you can click on any drivable consist, select the locomotive and click on Drive it. Then when you run RS, it will start up with you as the driver of the selected consist. This will enable you to set up consists at various places on the route and select the one you wish to drive.
{Released 30-Jan-2008}
Download from the table below. From V3.0.0 and higher includes a Help file.
